Sundays @ (Fellowship Hall)
January 3, 2010 - February 14, 2010* Lord, to you I Make Confession: A Study of the Seven Penitential Psalms Taught by Pastor Steven Pagels
Out of the 150 psalms recorded in the Old Testament, seven have been given a special designation. They are called "penitential." These psalms capture the real struggles of real people. There is raw emotion. There is tear-filled repentance. And there is much that relates to the lives of believers today. As we study this inspired poetry and prepare for the season of Lent, it will be our goal to make the words of the hymn title our own: "Lord, to you I make confession."

February 21, 2010 - March 28, 2010 Justified by Faith Alone: A Study of Romans 1 to 8 Taught by WLS President Paul Wendland
Come for a six week journey in which we'll explore the letter Luther called, "The door and the key to the Holy Scriptures." In a clear and systematic way, Paul sets before us the heart of the gospel, helping us to understand how the unrighteous sinner can stand before a righteous and holy God. He shows how the power of the gospel demonstrates itself in the lives of Christians. We may struggle with sin, death, and trouble, but we are more than conquerors in the cross. (Useful background reading is Armin Panning's "The People's Bible: Romans")

January 3, 2010 - February 14, 2010* Exercising Christian Discernment Taught by Pastor Joel Gerlach
"Many will come in my name...and will deceive many," Jesus warned. That warning underscores the urgency of distinguishing between truth and error. That calls for Christian discernment. St. Paul links discernment with abounding "more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that you may be able to discern what is best" (Philippians 1:9-10). That is the objective of this class. The course will cover the need for exercising discernment in the areas of Christian doctrine and Christian living.

The Spring, 2010 semester will begin with a study of Facing Your Giants by Max Lucado. Giants. We must face them. Yet, we need not face them alone. This profound look at the life of David digs deeply into the defeats he suffered and the victories he won as he faced the giants in his life. When David focused on God, giants tumbled. But when David focused on giants, he stumbled. Goliaths still roam in our world. Debt. Disaster. Dialysis. Divorce. Deceit. Disease. Depression. These super-sized challenges swagger and strut into our lives, pilfering our sleep, embezzling our peace, and robbing us of our joy. And while these giants try to dominate our lives, we know what to do! We've learned what David learned, and we do what David did. We become God-focused. We pick up five stones. We make five decisions. And we take a swing. Come, take a swing at your giants with us! Newcomers are always welcome!
Childcare is available on Wednesdays. We look forward to seeing you there!
