Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2009-10 school year! The purpose of the Christian Education Society (CES) is to serve our Lord by supporting a strong Christian relationship among pastors, teachers and families, encouraging the spiritual and physical growth of St. John's Lutheran School, and promoting educational programs for St. John's families. We accomplish this mission by bringing to you and your children events that foster fun, fellowship and learning throughout the school year.
The members of CES are excited to begin our planning for this year’s activities. We will work hard to create a balance between events for the whole family to enjoy and adult-only events that will allow parents to get to know each other better and learn at the same time. However, we can’t enjoy a successful year without your help! Many volunteers are needed throughout the school year in a variety of capacities. Notices of these opportunities will be posted in the Crusader Chronicle and through notes sent home with your children. I urge you to prayerfully consider how you can contribute to a successful year at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran School.
Together we can build in our children and families a sense of "community" at St John's Lutheran. I encourage you to become an active part of the Christian Education Society by sharing your time and talents through volunteer opportunities, attending the quality events and presentations that will be available throughout the school year, and sharing any ideas for events or improvements with a CES Committee member. We welcome this feedback – CES LISTENS!
We are looking forward to serving our Savior and growing in Christ as He continues to reveal Himself through the people and events at St John's Ev. Lutheran School.
In His Service,
Kristy Baltutis and Brenda Denk CES Co-Chairs
DEAD SEA SCROLLS AND THE BIBLE
CES invites you to join them in visiting the Milwaukee Public Museum's presentation of Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible on Sunday, March 21st. Fifty tickets have been reserved for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The event will begin at 11:30 AM with a light luncheon followed by a "kid friendly" presentation by St. John's member Matt Chasco. Matt has done extensive graduate work in Old Testament-period Biblical Archaeology and has worked on two excavations in Israel. Following the presentation, we will go to the museum for the 2:00 PM tour of the exhibit.
Registration forms are available at church and school for this event. For more information, please contact Mary Gaub.
DISCOVERY DAY
Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 18th. It's Discovery Day and we need your help!
Discovery Day is a special day at St. John's School where all students in grades K5 through 8th participate in a wide variety of special presentations ranging from martial arts to performing arts, from the magic of language to the magic of science.
This special event could not happen without the help of many dedicated parent volunteers. Opportunities to help will be announced in the Crusader Chronicle soon. Volunteers will be needed to set up during the evening on Wednesday, March 17th. On March 18th, volunteers can provide lunch for presenters or help with the presentations. Volunteers end up having as much fun and learning as much as the kids! For more information, please contact Jill Howe.
2009 MEMBER SERVICE DIRECTORY
The Children’s Education Society (CES) has put together a new directory of services offered by members and families within St. John’s Church and School.
How often have you needed the services of a plumber or accountant? How often have you needed that Avon or Mary Kay product? When was the last time you needed someone to come over and paint your fence or trim your yard? The purpose of this directory is to provide our church and school families with a go-to resource that allows us to better utilize the talents and skills of our Christian family.
Names appearing in this directory are in no way "endorsed" as the best or only services and do not imply or assume a discount for members.
