During
the past several years,
St. John's
has participated with the Sportservice Volunteer
Opportunity.
This
program consists of a group of people from St. John's who work
together in concession stands during Brewers games as well as
other special events held at Miller Park. We have also had the
opportunity to staff the large infield concession stand for races at State Fair Park.
The biggest benefit of this opportunity
has been the Christian fellowship shared as we work together for a
common goal! The extra
funds earned have been the added bonus!
By the end of the 2007 season the total earned
(including commissions, tips, and interest) has accumulated to
about $130,000!
Almost $20,000 will be distributed from 2007
funds to a variety of projects including teacher wish list items,
cabinetry for the two new classrooms and school bank loan
payments.
Through the efforts of this volunteer group, we have also purchased
gymnasium bleachers, an electronic scoreboard, an office computer,
boys’ and girl’s basketball uniforms, wrestling uniforms,
cheerleading uniforms, basketball riggings and backboards,
volleyball standards, handbell supplies, a defibrillator (and
training), a floor buffer, a laminator/binder station, 1 classroom
TV and 7 classroom DVD/VCR combos, and protective floor waxing for
the gym.
In addition,
funds were also available for the start-up of St. John’s Spirit
Club, WELS Synod-wide Advertising Campaign (2 years), advertising
at the Wisconsin Athletic Club, library wish list, teacher wish lists, school Christmas decorations, support for “Birthday
Party for Jesus” and “Discovery Day”, and outdoor play-area
painting and equipment.
We were also able to purchase a duplicating machine (used by the church and school
offices), a computer security filter for the school, 3 classroom
computers, a security monitoring recorder, and, of course, annual
pizza/sub parties for the volunteers and their families.
Grants to the
Building Expansion Fund and the Lau Fund were also made available
and funds helped with the cost of a
student cochlear implant.
The
St. John’s
Crusader (school logo) which now watches over our state-of-the-art
gymnasium was also funded by the Sportservice Volunteer
Opportunity.
WOW!
The results of this opportunity can be seen every day at
our school!
A special thank you goes out to all
of the dedicated volunteers who make this a fun and worthwhile
opportunity.
