Dear Friends in our newborn King: Some years ago the Christian author J.B. Phillips wrote a delightful, insightful, and highly imaginative short story entitled “The Visited Planet.” If we had to give it a genre, we might call it “Christian fantasy.”

It might be a movie that featured one or more of your favorite actors and the previews claimed it would be the biggest thriller of the year, or it could be a long-awaited sequel—the next episode in an epic series. Going in, you thought it had the potential to be the best movie ever made. What could possibly meet those expectations?! And what was your first thought when the credits rolled at the end? Was it everything you expected it to be? Or, did you come away at least a little bit disappointed?

Dear Friends in Christ, In the world of professional baseball the player who pitches the second last inning of a close game their team is winning is sometimes referred to as a “set-up” man. Reason: his role is to keep the other team from scoring in order to “set up” the final pitcher, known as “the closer” – who then completes the game and secures the victory.
