Soles for Jesus

Through Thursday, September 30
The new or gently-used shoes you donate this fall (any style and size) will change lives in Africa. As you clean out your closets, please set aside gently used shoes of all sizes and types and look for collection boxes at church and school throughout the month of September. Contact Yvonne Quint at 262-790-5716 or Cindy Kuehn at 414-534-1379 with questions.

Three Good Things That Will Happen in September

1. We will celebrate Unity Sunday on Sunday, September 12. Our worship will look different again this year (worship at 8:00 & 10:30 a.m. rather than a single service). But in spite of the realities of life in this sinful world, the most important things remain the same: our common faith in Jesus, our common goal of being witnesses of this faith before a watching world, and our common final destination of heaven. Regardless of the turmoil and uneasiness around us, we still have reason to celebrate this Unity Sunday!

2. We will host the TosaFest chili & cupcake contest on Saturday, September 11. Whether or not you're a fantastic cook or baker, please consider entering your best pot of chili and/or your favorite batch of cupcakes! This event is a fantastic way for us to connect with the Wauwatosa community and reach out to people who might never otherwise visit St. John's. Click here for more details and to register.

3. We will kick off our slate of fall Bible studies. Large and small group studies; at church, in members' homes, and online; weekdays and weekends - there's something for everyone! We'll also be resuming Sunday school this fall for students in grades K3-7. Click here for more information, and especially watch for a schedule and sign-up for Sermon Study Growth Groups coming soon.

One Good Thing That You Might Not Know About

1. At the end of September, we'll be hosting "Praise and Proclaim": a workshop designed to assist participants in learning how to share their faith and comfortably and confidently proclaim the gospel. Equipping our members for evangelism is one of the facets of our strategic plan, and the Board of Outreach is excited to sponsor this opportunity. Watch for more information - including a schedule and sign-up form - coming next week.

Your food pantry gifts are much appreciated by the families who rely on them. Canned meats/tuna and regular-sized boxes of cereal are especially needed. Two Good Things That Happened in July

1. Our teens returned from mission trip to Living Promise Lutheran Church in Morristown, TN. As a result of the Science Camp that we helped out with, the church welcomed three visitors to worship - one of whom is interested in taking Bible Information Class. What an incredible end to our week!

2. We reached out to our community through our presence at the Wauwatosa Farmers Market. By handing out bottled water and cloth bags and opening our playground to kids, we're able to make connections with people who might never set foot in a church.
