Crossing Boundaries

June 30 & July 14
When Jesus told his followers to “Make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), that included people from all economic classes, parts of town, education levels, and religious backgrounds. But we’re going to have trouble with this command of Jesus if we don’t look beyond our comfort zone. Jesus crosses all boundaries, and he calls us to cross boundaries along with him to meet the people he loves. Join us for Bible study at 9:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall as Pastor Phil Merten from Institutional Ministries helps us see how we can follow Jesus’ command and cross boundaries. (There is no Bible study or Sunday school on Sunday, July 7.)

By Scripture Alone Discussion Forum

Wednesday, July 24
Our By Scripture Alone readings are beginning to shift: from the story of Jesus' life and of the early Christian Church to the epistles that have guided and strengthened Jesus’ followers throughout every age. Please join us from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall to discuss what we've read so far. Questions or topics for consideration can be e-mailed to Pastor Schroeder. In addition to the questions you submit, we'll preview Paul's writings and look briefly at the general structure of his letters. Hope to see you there!

Finishing Strong

We are coming to the end of our annual ministry plan (budget) which closes on June 30. Just like a race, our goal is to finish the current budget year strong. Our church, school, and childcare programs are all unified under one ministry plan, and financial support from each member helps to ensure the strength of our work here at St. John’s. To contribute to this project and help us finish strong, please use a green Above & Beyond envelope and label it “Council Project” or “Finish Strong.” Make checks payable to St. John’s.

Summer Sermon Series

Beginning Sunday, June 23
We pray the Lord’s Prayer every week in church and perhaps on other occasions between worship services. The words come so easily, sometimes almost too easily. What are we actually praying for when we speak the Lord’s Prayer? This summer’s sermon series will walk through the petitions of the Lord’s Prayer using sermons based on Bible stories illustrating each petition.
