Dessert Reception - August 20

Everyone is invited to a Welcome Back and Farewell Dessert Reception in the fellowship hall following the late service on Sunday, August 20. See old friends, enjoy fellowship together, meet our new 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Renee Pastorek and say "farewell" and "thank-you" to Mrs. Jan Kreuser for all her work at St. John's school and to Miss Ginny Mundstock who served as our Church Administrative Assistant. Cake, pastries, coffee, milk & juice will be provided. If you are able to donate a baked treat, we would appreciate your help! Sign-up here to list your donation. Childcare Director Job Opening

St. John's is currently seeking applications for Childcare Director. This is a year-round, full-time salaried position with paid vacation and other benefits. Duties include supervision of up to 120 children and a proportionate number of adult supervisors. Financial Peace University - Begins September 13

Are you looking for a smarter way to manage your money?  Do you want to pay off debt and save for the future? St. John’s is pleased to once again offer Financial Peace University, a Biblically-based course that empowers you to make wise financial decisions. The course will meet for 90 minutes on 9 consecutive Wednesdays beginning September 13 at 6:30 PM. There is a $93 fee to cover the cost of materials used during the course. “Scholarships” are available for members who may need assistance to partially defray the cost. Food Pantry Collection - August 5-6

The next opportunity for you to share your blessings via the food pantry collection here at St. John's will be the weekend of August 5-6.  Remember that hunger doesn't take a vacation - please bring your donations to the narthex and help make a difference in the life of a child, a teen, or a family in the Milwaukee area in need of food.  Thank you for your generosity!

Women's Book Club - Friday, August 18

Join us at St. John's school at 7:00 PM for food, fellowship, and great discussion. We're reading The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. RSVP to Jean Stern by email here if you plan to attend. Our September selection is Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee. At our September meeting we will also select books for the next six months. Please get your suggestions to Jean by the end of August. Everyone should come up with at least one “not to be missed” title!

From Another Mother Baby Rummage Sale

St. Marcus will host a Baby Rummage Sale on Friday, August 4 from Noon-6:00 PM and Saturday, August 5 from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM. They are seeking donations of clean and gently used baby, toddler, child, and maternity clothes & shoes, toys, books, and baby accessories (no mattresses or car seats please). 100% of the proceeds will benefit Lutherans for Life. Donations will be collected July 29-30 from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM at St. Marcus, 2215 N Palmer St, Milwaukee and on Wednesdays through August 2 from 1:00-5:00 PM at Lutherans for Life, 8501 W Lincoln Ave, West Allis. Have questions or need help donating? Exploring Faith and Science - Begins July 23

Sundays, July 23 - August 27, 9:15 AM* – What might the laws of nature tell us about its Creator?  Is science in conflict with Scripture?  If so, since when?  And what can scientific techniques like carbon dating tell us about the age of the Earth?  In this summer Bible class, we will explore the relationship between faith and reason and apparent conflicts between Christianity and modern science.  The course will be team-taught by science faculty from Wisconsin Lutheran College: Dr. Rob Balza (biology), Dr. Kerry Kuehn (physics) and Dr. Dan Ebeling (chemistry).  *Note: there will be no class on Sunday, August 6.

Online Registration for School Tuition

New this year as part of school enrollment: Complete the registration questionnaire by clicking “Student Registration” on the Enrollment & Tuition page of the school website here. Upon submission of the form, a tuition coordinator will provide you with details of the options selected, establish your payment schedule/method, and answer any questions you may have. Keep reading for more information.

Optional items include:
•   Order Milk for the school year
•   Order Books (bibles, hymnals and catechism)
•   Contribute to the Teacher Gift program
•   Establish a Hot Lunch Family Account  **NEW**
•   Donate to the Lau/Tuition Assistance fund established to provide financial aid to members


Individual meetings can also be scheduled by contacting Sharon Kieselhorst by email here or at 414-258-7831 for an appointment or by stopping in the church office during regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-4:30 PM).

Note: Families are encouraged to complete the online form prior to August 4 so tuition payment amounts will be known, and the first payment can be brought to Registration on August 6-7. The tuition office at Registration will only be available on Monday, August 7.

By Scripture Alone Discussion Forum - Wednesday, July 26

If you are still reading, you are over halfway through!  Seems like it would be a great time to gather and discuss what we have learned so far (and ask questions if we have those, too). Summer in the Son

Enhance your summer Bible study with a special series by Time of Grace pastors, Mike Novotny, Jon Enter and Jeremy Mattek. Each evening July 11-12 and 18-19 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM, two of the pastors will provide insight into God’s Word followed by a meet-and-greet/fellowship time. Come for one evening or come to them all at St. Marcus, 2215 N. Palmer St., Milwaukee. These messages will be recorded for later television broadcast.
