Three Good Things That Will Happen in August

1. Our students will return to school. The halls of our school building have been empty since March 16, and we are so excited to welcome our students back on August 26! Please especially keep our faculty, staff, and Board of Education members in your prayers as they continue to plan for the start of school and the best ways to keep our students safe in the midst of these uncertain times.

2. We will celebrate the retirement of our former principal, Mr. Scott Uecker. Due to the pandemic, we are only able to host a small gathering of faculty and staff to mark this occasion. However, we invite the congregation to wish Mr. Uecker the best with a card the weekend of August 8 & 9. Look for the box in the church narthex, drop off a card at the church or school office, or mail your card to the school office. May God bless you in your retirement, Mr. Uecker!

3. We will install two new teachers. Mr. Dan Markgraf (principal) and Miss Megan Bauer (4th grade teacher) will be installed in our 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, August 23. We pray for God's richest blessings on Mr. Markgraf and Miss Bauer as they begin their ministry at St. John's!

Two Good Things That Happened in July

1. Our childcare program continued their "Around the World" summer theme. Mexico, Italy, Australia, and of course the United States (for July 4) provided a number of activities and learning opportunities for our childcare students. For all the news and updates on childcare, make sure to like our childcare Facebook page

2. We kicked off another round of Sermon Study Growth Groups. These small-group Bible studies run for a limited time (five weeks this summer) and take a deeper look at the previous weekend's sermon. We are planning to run another round of Growth Groups in the fall (likely late September / early October), so keep an eye out for more information then!

One Good Thing That You Might Not Know About

We are privileged to partner with Christ Lutheran Church in Milwaukee in helping to stock the shelves of their food pantry. Donated items are delivered to Christ the first Monday of each month, and both food and monetary contributions are appreciated. Look for the food pantry box in the entryway to the church offices, and make any checks payable to St. John's. Thank you for your generosity!

August 2-16
Join us virtually next weekend as we kick off a new Sunday morning Bible study! Rev. Phil Merten of Institutional Ministries leads us in a study of "stinking thinking" - thought patterns that we've gotten accustomed to but that are problematic and troublesome to our lives as Christians. Rev. Merten will look at some of the ways "stinking thinking" shows up and how God in his grace gives us a new way of thinking.
