     Our international students have provided us a special honor this year.  Easter Sunday at the Sunrise Service Tony Chen was baptized, and this Saturday Peter Ma will be confirmed with our class.  Thank the Lord for this blessing to our outreach program through the work of Pastor Yu!

     On Tuesday, the congregation extended a call to teach fifth grade next year to Brett Kriese, currently the principal at Pilgrim Lutheran School in Menomenee Falls.  Please keep him in your prayers, asking our Lord to guide Mr. Kriese in his consideration of both calls he now holds.

     Miss Treder continues to consider the call she recently received to teach 1^st grade at St. Paul’s Franklin, WI.  Please take time from your schedule to encourage Miss Treder as she considers this call and where her talents will best build Christ’s church.  Pastor Schroeder is still considering his response to a call to Marshfield, WI.  Please keep both of these servants in your prayers. 

     We are currently enrolling International Students for next year and we need host families.  Would you host a student?  There are two opportunities: a 10 day visit in August after school starts, or, for the school year.  We are planning to host 6 students from China for 10 days.  The students are boys and girls in grades 6,7 or 8.  We are also planning to host 2 or 3 students for the whole year with our 7^th or 8^th grades classrooms.  The costs of hosting are reimbursed.  We need families to volunteer!  Please email me if you would like more information, scott.uecker@sjtosa.org

     Have you put the school play on your calendar?  May 10^th 3:30 or 6:30   We have contracted with a company to send two Actor’s Equity people to work with all our students in grades 3-5.  The company supplies costumes and staging/props for “The Wizard of Oz”.   Supper and games between the performances is planned. 

     We continue to have scrip cards for sale in the school office.  Will you need some for birthdays and thank you messages over the summer?  Please stop in and stock up.

     Also, on Tuesday, April 16^th at 6:30pm we will again meet to consider calling someone as our 5^th grade teacher.  This meeting may be a bit different, one of the options is also to go the synod assignment committee and ask for an MLC graduate.  Please plan to be there to participate in the discussion of how we might move forward.

Don’t miss the WLHS A Cappella Choir at Sunday worship this weekend.

    Mrs. and Mr. Leyrer returned the calls they had received to serve at Waterloo, WI.  They will continue to support our ministry here at St. John’s.  Pastor Schroeder continues to consider a call to serve at Marshfield, WI.  While he deliberates this new call please encourage him with your appreciation of his work at St. John’s and keep him in your prayers.  Also, we extended a call to Mrs. Laura Schultz to teach 5^th grade next year.  Last week, I met with Mrs. Schultz and her husband to discuss this call and now we await her decision.  Again, please pray for God’s guidance for each of these church servants.

     The Penny Wars are over!!  The competition was a great success.  We had so much donated that even with the bank machines counting the coins, it took hours to determine the winners.  Whole bricks of pennies were donated!  8^th grade donated the most money, but the other classes managed to cancel out their success and 1^st grade won the war.  More information is included in the Chronicle.

      In a related article in today’s Chronicle, you can read about the success of our basketball teams in the national competition at Valpo this last weekend.  Thanks to the coaches and parents who invest so much time and effort to allow our teams to use their talents in the name of our school and church. Thanks for your support of their fundraising efforts to cover the costs of attending.  We covered the costs of attending this tournament.
