Where is the church located?
St. John's is located in the heart of the Wauwatosa Village, at the crossroads of Harwood Avenue and Dewey Avenue. View a map here.
Our address is 7809 Harwood Ave, Wauwatosa, WI 53213.
When are the services?
Services are Saturdays at 5:30 PM and Sundays at 8:00 and 10:30 AM.
Holy Communion is offered on the first and third weekends of the month. We believe that gathering together at God's altar to receive Holy Communion is a testimony of the confession and commitment we share as members of the Lutheran Church. We ask guests who are not members of our denomination to speak with one of the pastors before partaking in Holy Communion so that all may have a clear understanding of our faith and practice.
What are the services like?
Our services center around the message of God’s free grace to sinful humans. You can expect a message that is Bible-based. Even though we live in a world that is changing day after day, you will hear a message that has stood the test of time. You will leave knowing not only what the Bible says, but also how it applies to you today.
Worship at St. John's is liturgical worship; that is, it follows a pattern of worship - the liturgy - used in the Christian Church for almost 2,000 years. Sermons, readings from the Bible, hymns, and prayers focus on the words and works of Jesus as they are arranged in the Christian Church Year. This means that we observe seasons such as Advent, Epiphany, Lent, and Easter.
All the services are printed in the service folder so worshipers can follow along easily. If you arrive late, ushers will assist you in finding a seat - and it won't be in the front row!
Our services are also available online. Watch services live on Sunday mornings at 8:00 or 10:30 AM (Central Time) or view a previous week's service anytime.
Where can I park?
Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the church or across the street at St. John's School.
What should I wear?
What to wear is not an issue at St. John's. Like most people, our members try to make their worship time at church a special time. This is often reflected in the way they dress. Ultimately, however, dress is a personal matter of worship before God.
When people dress out of love for their Lord, the choice of dress is acceptable to God and to us. We welcome those who dress more formally and those who prefer casual clothing. What you wear isn’t nearly as important as you being here…so come as you are!
Are my children welcome at worship?
St. John's encourages families - including infants and young children - to worship together. Children's bulletins are available for young worshipers. Parents may take small children into the entry area, mother’s room (at the back of the church), or nursery (lower level of church) as needed and follow the worship service on the TV monitor. Changing tables are available in the mother’s room and in the room adjacent to the nursery.
Do I need to give an offering?
The members of St. John’s have joined together to do the Lord’s work in our community and around the world, and our offerings are a joyful response of our faith. As a visitor to our church, you are welcome but not obligated to give an offering.
