Track & Field

Track season is soon approaching…hopefully the warm weather is too!

Track & Field is open to any 5th through 8th graders that are interested.  Practices are scheduled to begin the week of April 8th.  The initial organizational practice on April 8th will be held at St. John’s from 3:15-4:15pm and all practices after that will be held at Wisconsin Lutheran High School, from 4:30-6:15pm.  Please check the athletic calendar for a full schedule of practice and meet dates.  On days with inclement weather in the forecast, parents should assume there is practice and check email for possible cancellation.  We WILL practice in rain and/or wind, but we cannot practice when there is lightning.  We will make the decision on weather-related cancellations by 4:00.

Pastor Bitter will be this year's head coach, assisted by Mr. Leyrer and several other assistant coaches.

IN ADDITION…St. John’s will be hosting a couple of our own track and field invitationals:

  • Tuesday, May 7:  Smaller meet; fewer teams; all relay events; no field events
  • Saturday, May 11: Larger meet; 10+ teams

Both meets will be held at WLC’s outdoor athletic complex.  I am very excited about these opportunities, but it will require us to have numerous volunteers.  If you are willing and able, please let me know ASAP if you can help out.  We are in need of people who can do the following: timing, measuring, recording, starting, etc.  Most of these things don’t require much “track experience”, but for some things it might be nice to have a few people who are familiar with the sport, especially when it comes to relay exchanges and certain field events.  Don’t let any of this deter you from helping though - I am more than willing to fill you in with details and teach you what to do.  The important thing is for us to have enough volunteers for each of these days in order to make this work.  Again, if you can help out on either or both of these dates, please let me know ASAP - just shoot me an email or send me a text.  Thanks for considering!

Mr. Leyrer

What an exciting time for our basketball teams! The A-team boys and girls participated in the Lutheran State Tournament this past weekend.  For the second year in a row, the boys placed third.  They lost in the semi-finals to St. Paul’s Oconomowoc by 1 point in overtime.  In the third place contest, the boys remained on top throughout the game against St. Paul Lake Mills and ended up winning with a score 53-44.

Our girls had an exciting semi-final game beating St. Paul’s Grafton by two on a last second shot by Olivia Close.    Then, for the first time in school history, they took the State Championship!  They beat First Immanuel Cedarburg with a score of 41-28.

For the second year in a row, both teams have qualified to compete in the National Tournament at Valparaiso in Indiana.  Both teams have accepted the invitation and will be competing from March 28 – March 31.   This will be the girl’s second appearance at Nationals and a first for the boy’s team.

Thanks be to God for blessing these athletes with the talents and abilities to compete at such a high level.

Watch next week’s Crusader Chronicle for more information about the pep rally, live stream viewing of games, and ways to support the teams for their trip to VALPO.
